The Original Sisterhood of Servants Circle

Just as a rainbow has six colors that come together to burst the atmosphere wide open with color and vibrancy that is beautiful to behold, so these six women bring such beauty and vitality to the lives of the people they come in contact with. They were recently honoured at a reception to celebrate their extraordinary examples of sisterhood and servanthood. Meet a group of women who have decided to "step inside the circle" and truly know what it means to minister to others. I feel very blessed to be able to call them friends.

BETTY C. - My first encounter with Betty was during a Beth Moore ladies bible study. She shared a prayer request and challenged the other participants to help bare her burden for a young, unwed pregnant woman she and her husband had befriended. This left an indelible impression upon me. Betty’s life can be characterized by the words honesty, compassion and intercession. She has a desire to come along side others and make their lives better. Betty ‘thinks outside the box’ and has creative solutions for solving problems. Now, many years and “lunch counseling sessions” later, I am thankful that I too have been a frequent recipient of her kindness, wisdom and prayers.

JELAYMY P. - “Jela” was born and raised in Venezuela. She and I met in January 2000 at an orchestra practice where we both playing our violins. From that initial practice we have had many, many opportunities to play our instruments in various ensembles. We have enjoyed great music together and even greater amounts of laughter. She and I developed a sisterly bond right away that really had nothing to do with our shared love of the violin. Jela is genuine. She loves her native Hispanic culture and its people. This is evident in the countless number of hours she spends selflessly giving of her time, energy and resources to help cultivate the lives of the people she loves.

JOSIE A.-
Jesus loves the little children and so does Josie. Whenever I think of Josie, I am reminded of her love for children and the parents who are raising them. As a former day care owner, Josie understands what it means to minister to the entire family. Even after serving many years as a Sunday school teacher and preschool director, her eyes still twinkle with delight as she talks about telling kindergarteners the story of Noah. Though she loves children, Josie’s real passion is telling everyone she comes in contact with about the Savior who loves them. I am inspired by her love and concern for others. She is truly a woman of compassion.

PAM H.
Pam and I met through our homeschool association several years ago. We have had countless opportunities to share each other’s company, and what I admire most about Pam is her consistent, genuine, unpretentious, “for realness”. Pam is always able to find and focus on the good in people when others may see only the bad. She is one of the most generous people I know. Without a doubt, her generosity stems from an authentic servant’s heart and love for others. She is so quick to offer her time for a worthy cause or just to lend a helping hand to a friend in need. I have personally had the words “needy friend” written across my forehead many times, and she has always been there for me.

RHODA C. -
I have often said that Rhoda is not only my partner in ministry, but my partner in crime. She makes me laugh out loud!! It has been my delight over the last 6 years to watch God work through her life to impact so many. It is with a tender heart that she truly ‘walks the walk’ and lives out her testimony on a day to day basis. I am also very thankful for her patient family members who put up with my requests for a “quick meeting” with her even when the request is at a crazy time of night. March on my dear sister because remember… “you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you!"

PATTY A. -
As the founder of Women Of the Well International Ministries (pkappleby@comcast.net), my friend Patty spends countless hours contemplating creative ways to minister to women in her sphere of influence. Whether it is seeing a woman walking the street and wondering where she’s going or weeping over the deplorable living conditions of a young pastor, Patti has an authentic, sensitive heart for those who are needy. She seeks to use the time God has entrusted to her to make a positive impact for His kingdom. I count it a privilege to have been the beneficiary of her listening ear and wise counsel.
